Selamat Hari Raya 1437 H

On the last day of Ramadan we had steak at PLM as buka puasa. The grass fed beef tasted amazing. I read from the menu that a healthy steak is one that was cooked either medium or medium well. Hence I requested medium. I know medium comes with blood BUT this time I just wanted to have a taste of medium grass fed steak. The waitress was so nice that she made it medium with no blood. For dessert I had warm chocolate cake with ice cream. Afterwards we were queuing to buy kuah kacang which I did not expect to happened.

As usual we celebrated the first day of Syawal at home and balik kampung in the afternoon. The most fun part was I got to celebrate Raya at hubby's elementary school friends' on the second day. We were served nasi briyani and asam pedas sardin and other Raya delicacies.

Now that we are back home I wanted to complete my puasa 6 soon. This week I finished only 3 so I have another 3 more days to go.

Mother, brother and sister celebrated Raya in T.I. They had rendang tok, home made kuah kacang and nasi impit. I was hoping for them to send me some rendang but I actually already know that it was not possible.

Remember the equation:
expectation - observation = frustration.

I wish we had been to more Raya open houses. (but not the one in BJ, please don't invite us!). I honestly think that my belly has more space to stuff with Raya food still. Nevertheless alhamdulillah Raya 1437 H has been a great one.

Syawal 1435 H

What a late post! It is already Syawal the 15th. As usual Raya morning was celebrated at home. Because of the traffic jammed we had to cancel our plan to go back to kampung. We went back to Melaka the next day and arrived home safely on the third day.

Family came for a small open house on Sunday. We prepared the easiest dish on the planet....the ADAMI paste, the saviour! Because it was easy, it was ready in more or less 2 hours. I was lucky I vacuumed and tidied the house the previous Friday. (and managed to remove the laundry from the main balcony as been asked to)

Mother was here but I could not go to her house because she was busy eating out and cleaning the house. She said she would die half way since she had to clean both her house and kampung. She complained that the house was dirty inside and out. Nobody cares to vacuum the hall, clean the window and scrub the bathroom floor.

Mother was saying that her favourite niece was asking her for $900 to buy an iPad. Of course I did not say anything because I knew she will give in eventually. That girl is a spoiled brat and has not been studying hard for school. I was never that annoying when I was 11! I always got high marks for exams and always among the top 5 students in primary school. And that continues when I was in seconday school. I don't brag because everyone will hate me for that. (my mother, my aunt, my sister, etc....)

That was Raya thank you!

The End of Syawal

Syawal comes to an end today. So no more open houses and no more delicious food. The final open house was last Sunday at my next door neighbour. However we are still left with lots of kuih raya mostly my sisters' handmade kuihs. Oh, we still have bottles of Twisters unconsumed because they are too sweet! (you don't want to end up diabetic, do you?).

I am planning to start gym soon again, hopefully. I was looking at the window this morning and I could not see anyone at the gym. Weird! I thought Madam (the usual gym buddy) must be running and sweating like hell at this hour. Then again she probably ran earlier in the morning so no one was there.

I called Mother last week and as usual the conversation always left me breathless! I told Mother that my friends adopted a baby boy from parents who did not want the baby because he was born out of marriage. "He wants him? That kind of baby?" Adoi la Mother......it was his choice. So let them be! When I mentioned about my friend's stepmom then Mother said "did he know of his other siblings? He should you know. He should know his other siblings from the same dad" Double adoi la Mother.......Mother is a busy body person and I extremely hate that. Mother thinks her son is the best in the world.

Mother talks about Father's good deeds only when he died. To me it was too late. I hate it. When she started to tell stories about Father I will slowly walk out of the room. I don't want to listen to crap stories. CRAP!

Oh and last Saturday we went to this event : French Cafe by Chef Benoit at French Sole KLCC. I was very lucky hubby bought me a pair of silver glitter flats because it was sold at 10% off. We had a slice of strawberry cake (nothing extraordinary, just like Secret Recipe's hahaha) and flat white cup of coffee. Afterwards we went to 1 Utama to pick up hubby's new suit by Ian Chang.

Raya Open Houses

Awesome! We had 3 days of holidays when Malaysia was celebrating Hari Malaysia on Friday the 16th of September. The extended weekends were filled with hubby's friends' open houses (lost contact with my friends) at the other side of KL.

After the Friday prayer, we went to Nusaputra in Puchong and had nasi ayam and sate. It was hubby's schoolmate's house which wasn't that difficult to find should we had exited Putrajaya toll instead. Then we headed to Saujana Utama in Sungai Buloh via the kampung road to hubby's ex colleague's. We had nasi lemak and bihun goreng plus agar-agar and banana cake. The final journey of the day was to Bukit Jelutong near Shah Alam at late evening and we had mee bandung Muar, slices of mangoes finished with raya cookies and tea.

On Saturday we headed to Seri Pristana in Sungai Buloh (again) but the journey wasn't smooth because the map wasn't in GPS! We should have drove towards Saujana Utama in the first place because from there we can see the signboard to Seri Pristana! The place was crap but we managed to find the house and had nasi minyak with mutton curry, cheese tart and carrot cake. To make up for yesterday's 'fail to show up' at another ex colleague's, we continued to Bukit Jelutong (again) just to say hi. On the way back home we tried the new Latar, exited at Selayang but the traffic was horrible! Lucky the GPS helped us to get back on track via the kampung road (again!). The night was supposed to end with PV raya feast but the organiser failed to be on time (as usual!) so we had our dinner at a restaurant instead.

We didn't travel far on Sunday because the open house was in Keramat. Although it rained cats and dogs we got there in time for bihun sup, bihun goreng and most of all I got to eat lemang! The popia basah and biskut batik were really awesome! There was another open house in Nilai but enough is enough. Nilai was too far and no doubt the traffic was horrible at that point of time. If we had decided to go we might not arrive home before 8 pm and hubby got to go to work tomorrow.

Raya 1432 H & 8th Anniversary

This time we celebrated the 1st of Syawal at our very own house. We cooked nasi impit, kuah lodeh, rendang daging and kuah kacang. After sembahyang sunat hari raya at the surau we headed to my kampong to visit the families.

On the second day of raya we headed down south to hubby's family's house to see the small cucus and ate even more!

The third day of Syawal marks our 8th anniversary. For celebration, we went to Singapore especially to visit Singapore Zoo. We stayed in Traders Hotel for 2 nights. We bought the famous Garrett popcorn, the back cover for recently purchased iPad2 and 2 bottles of Penhaligon's perfumes. We found Muji and bought a dress which will be worn together with a pair of jeans.

Hubby wasn't well so we had to skip the Night Safari. I think the newater was contaminated or probably hubby has an intolerable body (what's with the vocab??). As a result I had nothing for dinner (munching on Garrett popcorn only), bought one stupid bun and cure for diarrhea.

Raya Raya ~ Syawal 1430 H

Most probably we are going to celebrate Hari Raya on Sunday, 20 September 2009. My husband is very excited because this is his first raya at home after 4 years celebrating abroad. He bought a new red sampin which cost him RM500, a white kopiah and butang baju melayu. Since we didn't have the chance to make a new baju melayu for him, he is going to wear his old baju melayu which he wore on our wedding day 6 years ago. It still looks brand new! I asked for a pair of slippers because mine has worn out. I have 4 pairs of baju kurung which haven't been worn that much since we were not celebrating raya "excessively" abroad. I got a new tudung from my sister and a new telekung for sembahyang raya.

My husband and 2 of his brothers went back to his kampung to buy foodies for Hari Raya. The one that my husband really loves is N9's lemang. He claims that N9's is the best compared to other states' lemangs. I know Opah cooks good lemang too. I know Opah's rendang tok is the best rendang ever.

When I was a kid, Opah used to bake kek gula hangus (with and without raisins) ordered by neighbours for Hari Raya. The price varies according to sizes. And Opah used to sell acar buah which is also the best ever in Nescafe bottles, big and small. My mother will cook lemang, dodol and kuah kacang for nasi himpit for her to sell too. Hari Raya seems to be a big income contributor to Opah. Furthermore Opah is the best cook in my kampung.

The morning of Hari Raya will be the busiest for myself when Opah ordered me and my sister to send raya foodies to neighbours as sedekah. Sometimes we have to wait for the plates because Opah knew that several neighbours dare not return her precious plates. After that we were ordered to set food for orang masjid to come for raya at Opah's house after sembahyang. Remember, Opah is the best cook and they came to her house first!

There was an incident on one raya eve when karipap tasted "extraordinary" sweet. It was my aunt's doing when she accidentally mixed flour and caster sugar prepared for kek gula hangus. I was the one who said "eh, this karipap is sweet!" You should see Opah's face when she tasted the karipap and straight away knew that my aunt used her kek gula hangus ingredients. That night we had Maggi Mee for buka puasa since no one prepared a proper lauk when everyone was busy cooking foodies for raya.
